I've heard people call me all of these things at one point or another, and I've probably been called more, maybe even less nice things behind my back. I wear weird t-shirts, collect unconventional hats(I'm up to a tricorne and a fez. In search of a propeller beanie and a floppy fedora now), would rather write than play Flappy Bird, and actually talk to people rather than Facebook. Also, I happen to actually enjoy going to Church, and I don't date. I may even seem shy in crowds and at large group events due to my social anxiety. I consider Jesus to be my BFF. I'm ridiculed and shunned because I choose on a day to day basis to show who I am and what God has done in me. Last I checked, nobody's fighting for my right to be different.
But you know what?
None of that matters.
If you choose to be a snob and make fun of me, that's okay. If you decide that you're to cool to come talk to me when I'm sitting alone, that's okay. If you simply think I'm just too much of a far cry from fitting in, that's okay. But let me ask you one question:
How many people made the history books by fitting in?
Answer: Not too many.
Now how many who dared to be different are remembered and revered today?
Quite a few, methinks.
Without the bold, the brave, the innovators, the rebels, the geniuses, the artists, the authors, the weirdos, the outcasts, the nerds, the geeks and the freaks, what kind of world would we live in today? Maybe we need that persecution to keep our stubborn natures going.
So here's to us weirdos.
May there always be freaks like us to change the world.
UPDATE: Here's a verse to keep all us Jesus Freaks going: "If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you." (1 Peter 4:14, NIV)
