So, I've noticed something recently.
From the time you're tiny, you're told to "follow your dreams" and "reach for the stars", am I right? Then you start to grow up. You get to the point where you don't want to share your hopes and dreams anymore because they'll be called "unrealistic". Maybe you've come to terms with the fact you can't be a real princess or superhero or pirate professionally, but it's still kinda ridiculous.
Let's take me for example. I want to write and act, maybe even direct. But I do know I want to be in the film industry. Yes, I'm aware it's a cutthroat business. Yes, I know it'll take a lot of work. Yes, I know the hours I work will not be regular and probably not convenient. I feel that God needs me to shine my light in the film industry. Actors and celebrities may have us under the illusion that they have all they could ever want, and from a worldly perspective, they do. But they're almost hopelessly lost in many cases, and some of the most damaged people are in Hollywood. I have the skills to do these things, and I have the passion for stories and characters, and I have a mission. I even know what college I want to attend at the age of 14. So why, when I share these ambitions with you, do you kinda just laugh and say, "bless your heart"?
People do or don't do things when it's expected of them. Teens are often more rebellious when it's expected of them; insisting on the "terrible twos" only feeds the brat monster. By assuming these things, you're, as my mother would say, "speaking your world into existence." If you crush my dreams by saying that they're unachievable, you're not exactly helping. Would you rather I just live life comfortably? While I appreciate your answer being "yes" for my own sake, I can't let you keep that answer. I need you to push me and encourage me instead of calling my dreams out of reach and childish. Especially when I haven't explained said plan for world domination for you.
Basically, if you're gonna tell kids to reach for the stars, you gotta be prepared to help them build their rocket ship, whether it's actually a rocket or a replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Cecilia out.
